SITUATION OF THE SCHOOL
The school was founded in 1917 and is situated in an aborigine community. 60 pupils – boys and girls – from age 4 to 15, coming from the villages of Yavi Chico, El Portillo y La Falda, attend the school.
The school is located in the “puna” (*) of Jujuy in the Yavi department, about 3,442 m above the sea level.
At school, the pupils get breakfast and lunch. In addition to the usual school curriculum, they carry out an institutional project called “The corn, this gold Latin American grain”. In this project, the pupils integrally use the corn plant (their main food). The pupils actively take part to the project development, from preparing the terrain for the seed, to the preparation of food and making of artefacts with the grains and the hulks of this cereal.
(*) The word “puna” comes from quechua language and means waste lands or cold earth.
We need your help to collaborate with this school.
