SITUATION OF THE SCHOOL

The school is situated in an almost desert area, which is also very far from the important urban centers. The children, boys and girls, have then to walk for long distances to reach school. Sometimes, it takes them more than one hour to get from home to school! Some of them go there on foot, others ride donkeys and the most favored go by bicycles.
This newly-built school was completed with help of the teacher, the parents and some inhabitants of this area. Before, the classes were taught in a very close chapel. The sanitation facilities, together with the kitchen, will be built within the next months. It is important to underline the work done by Mr. Orlando Sanchez, the school teacher and director of this school center. Like so many other rural teachers, he teaches to all the school levels. Without his efforts and commitment, it would not be possible to deliver school education to these children.

During our first visit, we could identify the many needs, but the most important of them was electricity supply. That is the reason why our first task was to install a solar panel, which provides light, but also access to other educational materials, like video or music. We also brought a whole medical kit and school supplies, such as copy books, note books, pencils, color pencils, pencil-sharpeners, erasers, bristol, chalks, ink erasers, among others.

For the time being, we are collecting funds to build a tank which would provide drinkable water all year round, as well as a fridge working with gas, paint, a new blackboard and bicycles. In this geographical area, it rains very few and the soil is dry and stony.
So, we need your help in order to carry on this action. We would like to rely on your collaboration, so that the school of these children can have appropriate comfort and equipment to facilitate their learning.

This is only one example of the situation in which most of the rural schools in Latin America.
