...WHAT’S NEW? |
|

BOLIVIA |
|

|
|
| |
In our summer Newsletter, we described the living conditions of the pupils of the rural school of Lampaya, on the upper plateaus of Southern Bolivia. As promised, here are the details of the project. |
|
| |
Our project |
|
| |
The project involves renovating the refectory, the kitchen and the existing greenhouse as well as building two new greenhouses, equipped with an irrigation system, accessories, gardening tools and seeds. They will facilitate the learning of organic farming techniques and, at the same time, they will be a year-round source of fresh vegetables which will benefit the children, their teachers and their families.
Guided by farming experts, the children, teachers and parents will be trained in the rational use of natural resources and environmentally-friendly organic farming. Furthermore, they will learn about nutrition. They will benefit immediately from this new knowledge.

The refectory
This kitchen garden is a project which the School Community will manage as its own project right from the beginning. Gradually, as the self-management and community organisation workshops are held, the School Community will take on more and more responsibility and will take over full control once ANUPAZ’s action comes to an end.

Results expected
Creation of sustainable school kitchen gardens, thanks to rational use of natural resources. They will guarantee the children and their families a supply of high-quality food, allow them to improve their eating habits and to make the most of what their environment has to offer.
The project will help the rural school to strengthen its role as an example to the community by responding to the socio-educational needs of the people, by strengthening the community spirit and by encouraging gender equality: indeed, at each stage, account will be taken of everyone’s needs, particularly those of women and children.
As soon as the project is up and running, we will keep you up to date with its progress.

| WELCOME |
He’s in his sixties, and full of energy: it’s Andres San Martin y Gomez, Anupaz Bélgica’s new vice-president.Father of two and grand-father to Leo, he has always been fascinated by photography. Although a qualified photographer, his career was in a completely different area. With the IT revolution, he became a self-taught graphic artist. Anupaz’s video clip is one of his creations, as are a whole host of other projects that will soon be adorning our website. He, Rocio and Claudine recently designed our 2010 Christmas cards.

As a close follower of world affairs and of children’s situations in particular, he volunteers in several associations. In the spring of 2009, Andres joined Anupaz as a volunteer. His very structured personality immediately caught our attention: he is able to combine rigour and creativity as well as showing great enthusiasm for Anupaz’s activities.
When we needed to find a new vice-president, we naturally thought of him. Straight away, he began to dedicate just as much energy, time, skill and initiative to our projects. Every day he is there, proposing, discussing, making things work. He himself says that we are stronger working together as a team.
Anupaz is delighted to have him and welcomes him warmly.

| THE CRISIS |
The economic crisis is global, but those that didn’t have much to start with are being hit the hardest.
Anupaz has been working on a video clip on this subject for some time. Please take the time to listen to little Erika Soledad who appeals to us: “For us, children of Latin America, your help is our only hope” and Encarnación adding “With a little, you can do a lot! Help us to help them!
”Watch the clip, made by Andres for Spanish television, by clicking on this link.
Many thanks to all those whose enthusiasm helped make the film

| VOLUNTEERS |
ANUPAZ is developing rapidly and, as you may know, we all offer our time and skills free of charge so that every cent collected really goes to help the children.
In order to reach out to more people, to build awareness about the plight of children in Latin America and in order to help to improve their situation, Anupaz Bélgica needs volunteers in different areas.
That is why we have decided to dedicate a page of our website to precisely that. You will see photos of our actions over the years and, have no doubt, the atmosphere is fantastic!
Even if you only have a few hours to spare, please offer to help! For further details click here: Link
Please tell people about us and send the link to anyone who would like to dedicate a bit of time to our work or who could give us fresh ideas so that we can continue to make progress.

| CHRISTMAS CARDS |
It’s already time to be thinking about Christmas and sending cards to all those that mean a lot to us. Once again this year, we have produced some original greeting cards. Two artists: one Belgian: Claudine Volckerick, and one Uruguayan: Rocío Matosas Etchebarne, wished to offer their creations for the benefit of ANUPAZ’s children. |
|
|
Andres San Martin created two cards using computer technology and including a nice poetic touch. |
|
| |
| THANKS |
In Italy there is an association called Associazione Louis Turenne ( www.momosturenne.it) which has actively supported ANUPAZ for a long time already. We thank them sincerely and send them our wishes for a prosperous new year. |
